The creator of the former God of War is dissatisfied with the new character and history of Kratos

God of War is a completely different franchise compared to its early versions. After the revival of 2018, the franchise became more focused on the narrative, putting Kratos in the center of attention of the character.

This new direction brought IP a great success. God of War Ragnarok reached 15 million sales and has become one of the best -selling games on PlayStation, so the series gained a new life after 2018.

However, the creator of God of War David Jaffa seems to be not satisfied with his new direction. In a recent video, he explained the lack of interest in the new story, saying that he was not satisfied with the direction of development of IP and the character of Kratos.

Discussing the latest parts of the Norwegian saga, God of War, David Jaffa recalled that the Santa Monica team has put their growth particles in such characters as Kratos. If in the past everyone’s beloved Greek God was a machine of violence, now his new character is more focused on the family and care for others, especially on atreus.

However, David Jaffa believes that heroes such as Kratos should not deviate too much from their main direction. Drawing parallels between Kratos and Indiana Jones, he stated that both heroes suffer from similar problems, and said:

Sharing his thoughts about Kratos and his current role of his father, David Jaffa said:

Interestingly, David Jaffa seemed to like how Santa Monica treated God of War in 2018. When he was asked what he was thinking about the first game, he stated that Kratos was an interesting character in that part, but the last game did not save this impulse.

The creator of God of War said:

These comments are interesting, because we can say that Kratos has always been a family person. In fact, all his motivation for revenge began with the death of his wife and child. And although later the narrative grew into a more personal history of revenge, it is difficult to deny that Kratos’s actions have always been dictated by love for his deceased family. Nevertheless, it seems that David Jaffa did not really like God of War Ragnarok.

This is not the first time the Creator expresses a sharp opinion. Not so long ago, he noted that Spider-Man 2 lacks innovation.

Although many criticized the former developer for this comment, the template approach could become the main reason that Spider-Man 2 did not receive a single reward at The Game Awards last week.

Despite the opinion of David Jaffa, the public seems to be happy with God of War Ragnarok. Recently, a new DLC has come to the game, even more revealing Kratos and its path over the past two decades.
